The Vanished Ones is a story about the ancient peoples who lived in Southwest North America from before 500 BC until around 1200 AD.  It tells something of their lifestyle, the plants and animals that sustained them, plants and animals the modern explorer can see today.  The Vanished Ones, essentially, is about the beauty and wonder of the southwestern natural resources.

The Vanished Ones especially tells how the ancients and their descendents placed high value on the natural resources for which they, all humankind, depend.  It emphasizes the reverence and thankfulness Native Americans place upon the plants, the animals, and the rocks.
